In less than a decade, Wabi Dossou (31), has managed to establish him as one of the rising stars leading the 'Nouvelle Vague' of contemporary art in Benin, West Africa. In his creative practice, Wabi Dossou brings new meaning to the historical tradition of Gèlèdé. Bold, beautiful yet caustic in their wit and humour, his 'Diverted Objects' speak directly to a form of higher art. Through an ingenious neo expressionist subterfuge, these incomparable works of art, cross-pollinate the paragons of high fashion, music, pop culture and street art, interrogating us on notions of capitalism, mass media and consumerism.

Like an archaeologist, Toihen excavated stumps of sustainably sourced Teak trees. Naturally shaped by the elements, the roots, once covered by earth’s mantle, are like human stories concealed in time. Memory preservation, the passing of time and sustainability are at the core of Toihen's practice.

Elon-M Tossou / The 'Wiz Kid'
For Elon-M Tossou, art is inherently linked to religion. As a native of Oumako, Elon’s ancestry is rooted in Hulagan, otherwise known as Grand Popo, Benin’s high place of traditional religious practices.
Initiated in the tenets of theology, cosmogenesis and the sacred rites, the young
apostle is granted a rare opportunity to study the complex hierarchy of Vodun deities which, according to Fon and Yorùbá mythologies, are governing the forces of nature, the spirits of each individual water stream, each tree, each rock and in essence of every being upon this earth.
